Based on the real-life romance of writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon and adapted from their screenplay, "The Big Sick" navigates the cultural turmoil when Pakistan-born Kumail falls for Emily, an American. As Kumail struggles to balance the expectations of his traditional Muslim family and his whirlwind romance with his one-night stand, Emily falls into a coma from a mysterious illness. Kumail finds himself toe-to-toe with Beth and Terry, Emily's parents who he had never met, as they struggle to cope with the crisis. "The Big Sick," in theaters June 23, 2017, is rated R.
