About Airbnb TV Commercial, 'Is Mankind?'

In the ad from Airbnb's new global campaign, we watch a baby do his adorable bowlegged baby walk down the hall of his home all the way to the front door. As he makes his journey there, we hear the voice-over ask us eye-opening questions like if Man is kind and if we are good. As the baby gets closer to the windowed door and is surrounded by brighter light, we are encouraged to go out into the world and discover the answers for ourselves. We are told to go, see and find out just how kind mankind can be.

iSpot Review — July 27, 2015

As a website that arranges for you to rent rooms in other people's homes, it stands to reason that fear would be Airbnb's biggest enemy. It can't be easy to convince people that staying with a stranger is a good idea, but 'Is Mankind?' is fighting fear with faith. It asks us to believe that mankind truly is kind.

The ad debuted to mixed reviews, but the strategy behind it is strong. A baby peering through a window is a fitting way to ask people to look at the world through a child's eyes and the accompanying voiceover poetically expresses that the only way to know if man is good, is to take the leap and go find out.

Undeniably true and beautifully executed, Airbnb's thought provoking spot simply asks us to embrace optimism.
