About Dollar Shave Club TV Commercial, 'Our Blades Are F***ing Great' Song by Kennedy

Mike, the president of Dollar Shave Club takes you on a guided tour of DSC's storage facility and explains why his razors are the greatest razors to ever come down from razor heaven.

iSpot Review — October 30, 2014

This TV commercial for Dollar Shave Club is our introduction to the company, and it began life as an online viral video.  After half a year, and 5 million online views, the spot went to TV in January 2013.  The ad is a wonderful example of how to introduce yourself, your product, and your benefit all within an engaging creative envelope.  The brand even manages to squeeze in making competitive comparisons and giving a "reason to buy."

The company and agency wisely decided to keep the 60 second length when advertising on TV, because there's a lot of information to convey.  Thankfully, the one-take, single-shot production is grounded, yet absurd enough to hold our attention and amuse us over the full minute.  We raptly follow the action only to realize that we've also been listening to the pitch.  Elements of the pitch are nicely baked into the action of the shot.  EX: "19 goes to Roger Federer...I'm good at tennis."

The message so nicely conveyed - "Paying so much for razors and always worrying about running out is absurd.  Stop doing it, and shop Dollar Shave Club" - is both written clearly into the copy and executed cleverly within the action.
