In January 1973, a robbery at a New York sporting goods store escalated into a full-blown hostage incident. After an hours-long shootout, the only hope for an end to the standoff came in an unexpected form: that of police psychologist Harvey Schlossberg, who advocated for the use of emotional appeal and communication rather than continued gunfire. In so doing, Schlossberg helped to invent the modern practice of hostage negotiation. Decades later, documentary filmmaker Stefan Forbes interviews and solicits the perspectives of all parties involved in the documentary "Hold Your Fire."
