The Top 5 Brands Spending Big on Olympic TV Ads — Plus the Top 5 Commercials

With the Olympics in full swing, we took a look at the brands spending the most across NBCUniversal’s Rio broadcasts. Auto makers lead the way — specifically BMW (4% of the estimated total spend) and Chevrolet (3.6%). GEICO (3.1%), Samsung Mobile (3%) and VISA (2.7%) round out the top 5.

But when it comes to specific commercials with the highest estimated spend, a Chevrolet ad comes out on top. Out of the 645 ads that have run since the start of the Games on Aug. 5 through Aug. 11, Chevrolet’s “Up: Camaro, Equinox, Malibu, Silverado HD” is in the lead, VISA comes in second with “The Carpool to Rio,” featuring Olympic athletes Missy Franklin and Kerri Walsh Jennings, followed by Dick’s Sporting Goods, McDonald’s and Samsung Mobile.

Here are the top 5 ads ranked by spend so far during Olympic programming:

2. VISA – “The Carpool to Rio” (61 national airings, 1.77% of spend SOV)

3. Dick’s Sporting Goods – “Gold in US” (31 national airings, 1.73% of spend SOV)

4. McDonald’s – “A Better McNugget” (53 national airings, 1.55% of spend SOV)

5. Samsung Mobile – “Busy, Busy, Busy” (14 national airings, 1.44% of spend SOV)
