In Jakarta, Indonesia, severe traffic congestion and logistical costs had plagued the daily lives of residents until Japanese engineers stepped in with a solution. These engineers worked closely with the government of Indonesia to develop the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and shared know-how on boring tunnels to minimize disruption on surface traffic. Japan and Indonesia will continue to work together on planning and operating the system as needed.
