If you\u2019re thinking, \u201c<em>it feels like there are more tax-related ads this year<\/em>,\u201d you would be correct. Tax preparation companies have aired almost 1,100 ads a day during the first 98 days of 2019. That adds up to 106,000+ ads, which is a 30% increase from the same time period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>TAX SERVICES ON TV 2019 VERSUS 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"797\" height=\"222\" src=\"https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10161320\/2019-2018-tax-table.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6021\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10161320\/2019-2018-tax-table.png 797w, https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10161320\/2019-2018-tax-table-300x84.png 300w, https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10161320\/2019-2018-tax-table-768x214.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 797px) 100vw, 797px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The tax services industry has spent an estimated $283 million on TV advertising from January 1 to April 9, 2019, a 13% increase&nbsp;from the same period last year. This investment generated 21.7 billion impressions, an 11% increase. When you include their Super Bowl LIII ad campaign, TurboTax has increased estimated spend by 43% from last year, with a week to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10153803\/Top-Brands-1024x512.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6016\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10153803\/Top-Brands-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10153803\/Top-Brands-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10153803\/Top-Brands-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/hub-cdn.ispot.tv\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10153803\/Top-Brands.png 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite a presence in broadcast and expensive ad placements such <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/hub\/super-bowl-liii-final-report-by-ispot\/\">Super Bowl LIII<\/a> this category is advertising across a wide range of networks, genres, and shows. When the Super Bowl is chaffed out, football did not keep people from changing the channel as much as sitcoms and dramas. On the other hand, college basketball was a solid investment, with strong attention scores for the category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the number of US taxpayers essential flat over the previous three years, tax services swim in a red ocean trying to attract and retain customers. Additionally, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 added new complexity for many filers, with 2018 marking the first year the Act was fully implemented. iSpot expects the pattern of increased spend to continue through the final week of tax season.
