The concept is pretty straightforward, but what defines how Likeable an ad is? Might the notion change from year to year, as fortunes, politics, and social issues fluctuate? Can anyone agree, and if so, what drives that feeling of liking an ad? With the Super Bowl being the ad world\u2019s biggest stage, mass appeal is the surest way to success. We thought we\u2019d take a peek into the past and dive deep into the most Likeable Super Bowl ad from the last five years to prep you for this year\u2019s viewing party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Using survey-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/products\/creative-testing\">Creative Assessment<\/a>, we were able to identify which Super Bowl ad from the past five years scored highest on Likeability. As its name suggests, the score measures the extent to which survey respondents like an ad after watching it in its entirety. The following analysis uncovers the underlying (and sometimes subliminal) emotions that drive Likeability on gameday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#4ac500;font-size:30px\"><strong>And the Top Super Bowl Ad Is\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The most Likeable Super Bowl ad of the past five years belongs to Doritos for their highly entertaining and pop-culture <strong>Cool <\/strong>creative that left viewers <strong>Loving It<\/strong> &#8211; the 2020 showdown at the \u201cThe Cool Ranch Ft. Lil Nas X &amp; Sam Elliott.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"position:relative; width:100%; padding-top:56.25%; padding-bottom:40px;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/share\/ZEj8\" style=\"position:absolute; top:0; right:0; left:0; bottom:0; width:100%; height:100%;\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">This :60 spot was<strong> Funny <\/strong>and <strong>Quirky<\/strong>, delivering not just run of the mill &#8211; or teenage boy &#8211; humor, but clear <strong>Ingenuity<\/strong> that made for instant <strong>Memorability.<\/strong> Below, a sample of survey respondent verbatim comments reflect the impact the clever humor had on viewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em>I love this ad. They did a great job capturing the eyes of the young audience with the showing of Lil Nas X and his song &#8220;Old Town Road&#8221;. Whoever came up with the concept is brilliant and I&#8217;d want them on my team. It&#8217;s something people will talk about\u201d<\/em><\/p><cite>Female 36-49<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><\/em><em>\u201cThis was the perfect example of the type of ad I want to see more of on television. It has a catchy song that everyone loves and the dancing is awesome! It was very entertaining and made me want to eat Doritos of any flavor.\u201d<\/em><\/p><cite>Male 36-49<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Firing on<em> nineteen <\/em>emotions with a single ad is a rare feat in advertising (in fact, the average Super Bowl ad from 2014-2021 evoked an average of eleven emotions, with 2021 ads showing less diversity in approach and firing just eight), so Doritos gave everyone something to like with this one. You\u2019ll note the laugh track peaked in 2020 following a year of gun violence and political upheaval, including the impeachment of President Trump and the burning of Notre Dame.
