First, some big-picture stats:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;More than 250 brands ran nearly 500 unique ads during the Olympic broadcasts in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;iSpot tracked nearly 9,000 airings (8,890) of individual spots during TV broadcasts of the spots across NBCU networks.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;Olympic ads generated almost 70 million views online, and nearly 3 million discreet social actions\u2014including tweets, Facebook posts, and upvotes and downvotes for online versions of the ads on YouTube and iSpot.tv.<\/p>\n<p>Now, some brand-centric insights:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span> Procter &amp; Gamble took home the gold in terms of the digital buzz its tear-jerking \u201c<a title=\"Procter &amp; Gamble TV Spot, 'Thank You, Mom'\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/ad\/7T07\/procter-and-gamble-thank-you-mom\">Thank You, Mom\u201d<\/a> spot generated. The ad has racked up more 17 million views and spurred over 205,000 social actions since Feb. 7th, when the Games began.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span> Samsung, an official Olympics sponsor, ran its Olympic-themed ads against CNN and NBA basketball and ABC Family but not against the games at all on a national level, <a title=\"Why Olympic Sponsor Samsung Passed on Games Broadcast | Media - Advertising Age\" href=\"http:\/\/j.mp\/1dA6jOU\">as Advertising Age reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;Chevy, AT&amp;T and McDonald\u2019s occupied the most airtime, based on iSpot\u2019s 24\/7 tracking of every single airing of every ad run during Olympic TV broadcasts.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;Chevy, AT&amp;T and Geico spent the most, based on iSpot\u2019s estimated-spend calculations.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"st\">\u2022<\/span>&nbsp;BP\u2019s <a title=\"BP TV Spot, 'BP's Team USA'\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/ad\/7T4l\/bp-bps-team-usa\">\u201cBP\u2019s Team USA\u201d<\/a> was the most-run individual spot (168 airings).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi\u2014aka the XXII Olympic Winter Games\u2014have wrapped up, the iSpot team decided to take a deep dive into the data surrounding TV advertising during the event.
